This week at King Elementary School, the culmination of a month of planning and dedicated effort unfolded as third graders in Ms. Diaz and Ms. Nau's class proudly showcased their Gallery of Heroes.
The project combined 3rd quarter writing assignments with Black History Month, allowing students to explore and celebrate their heroes through informative writing. Starting in late January, students were introduced to various historical figures to research and select from or choose their own personal hero.
The journey began with essay writing, where students expressed their thoughts about these impactful individuals. After crafting their essays, they brought their heroes to life by creating informative posters and practicing presentations for one another before the showcase event.
According to Ms. Diaz, "Welcoming family members and other classes from King turned it into a community celebration of learning! Witnessing the enthusiasm as they shared newfound knowledge was incredibly rewarding for both the students and me as a teacher. It’s events like these that truly emphasize the importance of education and connection!"
The students put their hearts into this project, demonstrating determination, creativity, and teamwork. It was an inspiring moment for everyone involved. Each day, students begged their teachers and asked, "When can we work on our project?"
Ms. Diaz and Ms. Nau are beaming with pride over the amazing projects students have completed! A heartfelt thank you to the families of our presenters and all King students for your incredible support.
