Galesburg News

As you are aware, we are offering full-time, in-person instruction options for students beginning as soon as February 22, 2021. The virtual option allows a student to remain in E-Learning instruction and is still available to families.  Parents/Guardians will need to login to Skyward Family Access and fill out the online form by Wednesday, February 3, 2021.

We hope to answer some of the questions that have been asked in the following FAQ.

What happens if I do not fill out the online form to make my student’s selection for full-time, in-person learning or E-Learning starting on February 22nd?

If you do not fill out the online preference form, your student’s selection will default to full-time, in-person instruction.

What would a schedule look like for in-person instruction or E-Learning instruction?

Schedules for both in-person and E-Learning students will follow a regular school day.  Students will report to class and follow the building-wide schedules. Additionally, teachers in PreK through fourth grade will provide schedules to students and parents so they are aware of the timeframe for each subject (i.e., math, science, reading, etc.) throughout the day, including specials, so that E-Learning students can also plan accordingly and follow these same times.  Students in grades 5 through 12 will follow their building schedules and periods.

Students who elect to continue with E-Learning will be expected to follow the schedules and attend class during the specified times.

What will instruction look like for in-person or E-Learning instruction?

Regarding instruction, the students at both home and school will be afforded direct instruction and guided practice, due to the availability of the technology resources and tools provided by the school district.  Students will be able to attend virtually from home during periods of direct instruction through the use of Google Meet and video capability provided by the classroom teacher. The video will be directed at the teacher or front of the room so that students within the classroom are not visible in the Google Meet or recording. Furthermore, students at home and school will be utilizing the platforms we have throughout the first portion of the school year (i.e., Seesaw and Google Classroom). We want the tools and platforms to remain consistent for students and families in the event that a classroom must return to virtual learning for a period of time, due to COVID concerns.

How will the district maintain social distancing?
